Working together with national partners to strengthen health systems and community capacities, we are committed to scientific evidence and policy dialogue both as foundations and objectives of our work.
We are looking for an experienced development professional to lead our passionate field team focussed on Maternal and Newborn Health as well as Communicable and Non-Communicable Diseases in Tanzania.

Place of Assignment
Ifakara, Tanzania (with regular travel to all SolidarMed project sites in Tanzania as well as to Dodoma and Dar es Salaam)
Start of Contract
March 2020, with some flexibility

Programme Tanzania
SolidarMed in Tanzania focusses on addressing key challenges of Maternal and Neonatal Health as well as Communicable and Non-communicable Diseases at primary care and community level. SolidarMed’s main partners in Tanzania are the Ministry of Health and church authorities.
Through this programme, SolidarMed supports health care providers and communities within Morogoro and Manyara Region and shares generated evidence and lessons learnt through policy dialogue at national level.
Key interventions aim at increasing the scope and quality of health services (e.g. through capacity building of health workers or innovative approaches) and increased awareness and empowerment of community members.

Your tasks and responsibilities as Country Director
  • Assume overall responsibility for the coordination, implementation, project cycle management, budgeting, monitoring reporting and annual planning of the SolidarMed country programme
  • Further develop the country strategy together with the Programme manager based in Switzerland
  • Coordinate and link with partners, donors, stakeholders; proactively seek potential new collaborations within and outside the health sector
  • Represent SolidarMed Tanzania and host field visits
  • Contribute to programme- and project development; actively promote generation of new project ideas in the team and generation of evidence through implementation research
  • Managing a team of 16 members
  • Identify and follow up opportunities for institutional fundraising in Tanzania
  • Budget control and safeguarding of internal controlling system
  • Ensure the delivery of timely, high quality programme and project reports
  • Organisational development (staff, logistics, accounting, administration)
  • Knowledge management and policy dialogue

Your profile
  • Degree in a relevant subject such as Public Health, Management, Development Studies, or Economics
  • Strong working knowledge of English (spoken and written); knowledge of Kiswahili desirable
  • At least 6 years of professional experience, with a minimum of 1 year managing a team in a development context
  • Experience in the design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of development and health programmes (PCM and associated tools)
  • Sound knowledge and experience of management and administration, experience in financial administration desirable
  • Experience in dealing with institutional donors and government officials
  • Excellent social and networking skills
  • Team-player with good interpersonal skills. Able to develop and support other team members
  • Self-motivated, energetic, hard-working, entrepreneurial and service-orientated
