Job Description
UNDERWRITER JOB DESCRIPTION
- Collect, review and analyze an applicant’s relevant history and records
- Obtain additional information about an applicant to determine coverage needs
- Determine the level of risk for insuring or lending
- Offer recommendations on whether or not to approve an application
- Evaluate insurance claims for accuracy and the coverage amount
- Communication skills, including speaking and writing
- Customer service skills
- Advanced knowledge of federal regulations and best practices of insurance
- Project management and organization skills
- Time management and prioritization skills
- Decision-making and critical thinking skills
Underwriting officer requirements:
- Degree in insurance and risk management ( essential)
- 2 years of experience as an Underwriter (essential).
- Analytical thinker with research proficiencies.
- Ability to use reasonable and sound judgment.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Thorough knowledge of databases and smart policy.
- Solid organizational skills and detail-oriented.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills.
- Deep knowledge of underwriting regulations.
- Ability to build positive relationships and partnerships with clients, insurers and key role-
- players.
