The e-Government Authority (e-GA) was established under e-Government Act No.10 of 2019, with mandate of co ordinating, overseeing and promoting e-government initiatives and enforcing compliance to e-Government Standards and Guidelines to Public institutions.
The enactment of the e-Government Act came as a way of addressing challenges encountered by the then e Government Agency in the areas of legal environment and powers to manage duplication of ICT initiatives and silo ICT systems, promotion of sharing of systems in public institutions, and compliance with Standards and Guidelines to ensure effective use of ICT for improved public service delivery.
Government Internet Authority is an institution that inherited the Internet Government Agency created in April 2012 by the Government Agencies Act no. 30 Chapter 245 of 1997 responsible for the Authority for Coordinating, Monitoring and Promoting Internet Network Efforts in Tanzania.
Prior to the establishment of the Government Internet Agency, Government ICT use was coordinated and managed by the Systems Management Department (DMIS) located in the Office of the President, Public Service Management which is currently the Department of ICT Services (DICTS).
