VILLAGE MAINTENANCE FOREMAN (1 POST)

SCOPE OF ROLE

LEVEL OF WORK: III

Work Schedule: 6 Weeks On/3 Weeks Off

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: This position reports to Assistant Engineer

CONTEXT AND PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

The aim of this role is to provide technical assistance on maintaining various electrical, mechanical and civil aspects to facilitate smooth run of various business operations at the Village and optimize equipment facilities/ assets utilization. The Village Maintenance Foreman is accountable for both electrical and mechanical facilities and equipment maintenance. The main focus areas are the kitchen facilities, domestic facilities, and appliances for village residents, plumbing works, fire systems, raw and portable water systems and sewage systems. Ensure there is an effective and consistency application of all facilities and infrastructure at the village. The role holder is accountable for proper resource utilization ensuring that works are executed at cost effective and achieving value for money.

ACCOUNTABILITIES & AUTHORITIES OF THE ROLE

Village Maintenance Foreman has the following accountabilities and authorities:

  • Safety, Health, and Environmental risk management for each infrastructure and task to be undertaken
  • Conduct min risk assessment if non routine job are conducted, ensure risk awareness, hazard identification & reporting.
  • Compliance to safety procedures and standards at all times.
  • Ensure safe and proper tools and equipment storage
  • Assist the Assistant Engineer on day to day basis on work management and executions of tasks.
  • Provide technical assistance and supervisory roles to the team to execute various kitchen, office, domestic facilities and appliances; ensures facilities and infrastructure reliability add significant value to general business
  • Ensure smooth run of kitchen operations, high reliability of all kitchen equipments (cookers, ovens, cold rooms, air conditioners, etc.)
  • Lead the team to execute planned maintenance in place to repair or replace kitchen facilities and equipments whenever required
  • Assist in the implementation of planned maintenance system for buildings (doors, windows, floor, roof, walls, ceiling, lights replacement, painting etc)
  • Following clear scopes of work analyze and identify equipments need replacement or major repairs; all repairs / replacements have to be within the approved budget.
  • Cost effective: ensure maintenance activities meet the budget and achieve value for money
  • Install the new low voltage power supply lines, ensure its effectiveness based on business requirements and company standards, and that there is an efficient and consistency power supply to all users
  • Execute planned maintenance for both power supplies to workshops, offices, mess, dewatering pumps etc.
  • Ensure that there is an efficient and consistency application of all water systems(portable water, raw water, fire water and sewage systems) within the camp
  • Have a regular inspection to water infrastructure and establish maintenance and replacement as required
  • Ensure that there is always favorable environment for contractors to execute their tasks effectively and best quality of work is achieved as per Shanta Mining Co. Ltd standards
  • Ensure that risk assessment is conducted before the job is executed by the team and as a continuous exercise, record the associated risks and control measures picked up.
  • Identify and address any production risk if it’s within your scope of authority and escalate if not within scope of authority to address.
  • General cost awareness and drive to reduce cost (e.g., cost saving ideas and suggestion).
  • Maintain cross-functional communication with Engineering, Administration, HR and Camp contractors at all times.
  • Identifying the developmental needs of among the team members and provide a practical coaching as necessary
  • Ensure good time keeping for your team and take appropriate action as and when required.
  • Overtime management as per Shanta Mining Co. Ltd policy.
  • Assist the Assistant Engineer to identify individuals who are potential to the team and provide advice for reward and recognition
  • Assist the Assistant Engineer to manage behavior within the team and ensure there is fairly treatment on disciplinary actions

REQUIRED SKILLED KNOWLEDGE

Qualification:

  • Trade Test or Full Technician Certificate in Engineering

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of working experience in Projects Management.
  • Worked in Mining environment for at least 3 years.

  • Must have maintenance experiences and knowledge of maintaining various facilities, equipment, and water system infrastructure.
  • Must have at least level 3 in Project Management skills Must have knowledge of:
  • Maintenance – maintaining various facilities, equipment and water system infrastructure.


CRANE OPERATOR (2 POSTS)
SCOPE OF ROLE
LEVEL OF WORK: 1 ROLE TYPE: Individual Contributor.
REGION/DISCIPLINE: Tanzania BUSINESS UNIT/FUNCTION: Singida Gold Mine- Singida Region, Tanzania
Work Schedule: 6 weeks on/3 weeks off (Off Camp) Duration: 2 Years
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: This position reports to Process Plant Engineering Supervisor.

CONTEXT AND PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

The crane operator’s role is to operate mobile or stationary cranes to lift, move, align, position, or reposition loads. The job entails safe positioning of cranage equipment, lifting levers and pushing buttons to ensure the safe conveyance of materials and equipment around a construction, mining, or industrial site.

 

In performing these duties, you are required to operate cranes in compliance with safe crane operational procedures and keep active communication with ground crew/rigger via hand signals or radio where visibility is compromised.

ACCOUNTABILITIES & AUTHORITIES OF THE ROLE

  • Must be certified to operate crane as per legal requirements.
  • Perform operational tasks of the crane by moving levers, depress buttons, and foot pedals to operate and control the speed/direction of crane movement.
  • Conduct inspection of crane mechanism and lifting components to ensure parts are in working order.
  • Conduct inspection of lifting equipment and lifting tackle.
  • Liaise with riggers or assistants who provide direct assistance through radio communication or hand signals.
  • Inspect ropes, cables and grappling assembly to identify wear and facilitate replacement.
  • Clean, lubricate, and maintain the moving parts of a crane such as the ropes, cables, pulley, or grappling mechanisms.
  • Load or unload shipment of heavy-duty machinery or material from trucks.
  • Review work orders and schedules to determine sequence of operations.
  • Inspect bundles or shipment to ensure conformance to company regulations.
  • Signal and direct truck drivers to properly back vehicles into loading or unloading bay.
  • Move, lift, and position equipment, machinery, or heavy materials with the aid of hook or bucket.
  • Provide report of work operations by completing relevant paperwork.
  • Direct riggers and assistants in placement of blocks and outriggers to prevent capsizing when lifting heavy materials.
  • Move levers and pedals to rotate crane on chassis or raise or lower crane boom/load line.
  • Work within set standards of accuracy and precision.
  • Conduct risks assessments and inspection of work areas as per company guidelines and engineering standards.
  • Maintain an up-to date register of all lifting equipment and tackle.

REQUIRED SKILLED KNOWLEDGE

Qualification:

  • Form (IV) certificate
  • Cranage & Rigging training Certificate from recognized institution
  • Valid Tanzanian Driving License on heavy duty machines

 

Experience:

  • 3 or more years’ experience working as Crane operator on above 30T Crane in either link belt, rough terrain, or truck crane.
  • Experience /Knowledge on operation other mobile machine the like of TH, Manlift, Cherry picker, Forklift, Bobcat will be added advantage
  • Good written and verbal English language skills are essential.
  • Experience with mining environment would be advantageous

Geological Technician

CONTEXT AND PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

The purpose of this role is to undertake routine managing ore movement at Pit/Underground to ROM and assist in the undertaking field support work within ore movement areas. Ensure timely and quality implementation of assigned field support tasks based on the available systems and resources for smooth mining operation.

ACCOUNTABILITIES & AUTHORITIES OF THE ROLE

The following are the accountabilities and authorities for this role:

  • Undertake utilizing the existing technical systems and resources, implementation of field support tasks assigned by Geologist/Senior Geology technicians as part of maximizing resource mining and minimizing geotechnical risks arising from mining.
  • Supervision of ore mining and handling process. Ensure that ore mining and marking process meets the required standards and that conditions that could result in unsafe working conditions below the high walls or underground faces are addressed before mining proceeds to the lower benches or face sampling at underground environment.
  • Maintain and Monitoring of Geological Data, assisting the Geologist/Senior Geology Geotechnician to timely undertakes grade control process. Ongoing inspection of mining operations and ore movement to ensure standard and procedure are followed

REQUIRED SKILLED KNOWLEDGE

Qualification:

  • Certificate in Mineral Deposits or FTC or Diploma in a Geology related field i.e. Mineral Resources Technology from Madini Institute or any other recognized tertiary Institute or Certificate of Secondary School (0-Level / A-Level) with not less than 7 years mining experience and assessed to be capable for the work.

Experience:

  • Some exposure to mining preferably in a Geology or Geotechnical related field is essential.

Must have knowledge of:

• Grade control processes and sample correction technics

 

Fitter Mechanic (6 Posts)

CONTEXT AND PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

Provide engineering maintenance services on mechanical infrastructure and systems, execute mechanical related projects to maintain equipment’s to the required performance. Installation to the correct standards of motors, gearboxes, pumps, fans, conveyor belts, agitators and valves; balancing and testing of equipment; component assembly and fitment of equipment, and other general fitting tasks and requirements.

ACCOUNTABILITIES & AUTHORITIES OF THE ROLE

Fitter mechanic has the following accountabilities and authorities:

  • Read, interpret and understand engineering systems blueprints and distinguish associated mechanical components, and correctly install and commission mechanical system based on blueprints or drawings.
  • Using blueprints and drawings as a guide, assemble, install and create complete or finished mechanical structures.
  • Troubleshoot and Repair Malfunctioning Systems: Use analytical and problem-solving skills to test and diagnose mechanical systems and structurees, determine the root cause of any malfunction in the system and rectify, come up with a plan of action and use skills to replace or rectify identified defects or components or configuration
  • Perform Regular System and Equipment Maintenance by Creating and implementing maintenance schedules and procedures for all of the systems under your control. This includes keeping an organized maintenance log.
  • Preventive Maintenance: Perform various mechanical infrastructure systems inspections as assigned, these are daily, weekly, monthly inspections to maintain or improve equipment availability or performance.
  • Corrective Maintenance: Repair, replace or modify various mechanical parts and infrastructure to minimize equipment downtime.
  • Repair, maintenance, and installation activities on fixed plant infrastructure such as, crushing plant, dewatering infrastructure, milling plant, CIL plant, gold plant, Tailings facilities, water reticulation systems, mine ventilation equipment and mine air systems
  • Inspect, analyze, and record critical mechanical information during the process of undertaking mechanical refurbishment work; this critical information would include the interpretations of wear and tear, mechanical damage to gears, shafts, housing, bearings etc. recording of end floats, preloads, gear train, backlash, tooth contacts and other engineering data at the start and completion of every refurbishment.
  • Execute various mechanical related projects to the required quality and standard.
  • Responsible for the installation of new equipment. Studying plans, drawings, specifications, and work orders to determine work requirements and sequence of repairs and/or installations. Ensure the best quality of work is delivered within the safe working standards and regulations set.

REQUIRED SKILLED KNOWLEDGE

Qualification:

  • Trade Test qualified Grade I or Mechanical Full Technician Certificate (FTC).

Experience:

  • 3 years working experience in Mechanical Field.

Skills

  • Good written and verbal English language skills are essential.

Boilermakers 6 posts

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: This position reports to Process Plant Engineering Supervisor

BUSINESS UNIT/FUNCTION: Singida Gold Mine- Singida Region, Tanzania

CONTEXT AND PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

The boilermakers job is to perform welding and fabricating duties related to structural projects and equipment repair / maintenance. This includes lay out, fit, and fabricate metal components to assemble structural forms, such as machinery frames, using knowledge of welding techniques, metallurgy, and engineering requirements.

ACCOUNTABILITIES & AUTHORITIES OF THE ROLE

Perform multiple welding processes such as: arc welding (SMAW), metal insert glass (MIG) welding, tungsten inert glass (TIG) welding, flux-core welding (FCAW), plastic welding, hard facing, oxygen / acetylene welding, and brazing. Shall also perform plasma cutting, oxygen / acetylene cutting, tempering, flame straightening, air carbon-arc cutting, sheet metal cutting / bending.

  • Analyze blueprints, specifications, sketches, work orders, and material safety data sheets to plan layout, assembly, and conduct welding operations.
  • Regularly inspect and test welds and equipment. Welds are checked for durability as well as meeting specified standards and equipment must be examined to determine if repairs or new equipment is needed.
  • Be familiar and competent is using various boiler-making tools and equipment including conducting pre-use inspections and assessment.
  • Ensure sufficient task analysis is completed to carry out work safely.
  • Use blueprints – read drawings, work orders and production schedules to determine locations, positions, or dimensions of parts and understand job instructions and specifications.
  • Examine work for defects and ensure conformance with specifications.
  • Weld sections of iron, steel, copper, or other metals together to form them into required structures.
  • Lay out, position, and secure parts and assemblies according to specifications.
  • Tack-weld or weld components and assemblies, using electric, gas, arc, or other welding equipment.
  • Cuts workpiece, using powered saws, hand shears, or chipping knife.
  • Inspect grooves, angles, or gap allowances, using precision measuring instruments.
  • Remove rough spots from workpiece, using portable grinder, hand file, or scraper.
  • Weld components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions.
  • Heat, form, and dress metal parts, using hand tools, torch, or arc welding equipment.
  • Analyze engineering drawings and specifications to plan layout, assembly, and welding operations.
  • Develop templates and other work aids to hold and align parts.
  • Determine required equipment and welding method, applying knowledge of metallurgy, geometry, and welding techniques.
  • Conduct non-destructive tests on welds, joints, and fabricated piece. Be familiar with various types and techniques on doing NDT including MPI and x-rays.

REQUIRED SKILLED KNOWLEDGE

Qualification:

  • Fabrication Boilermaker Trade Test Grade I, II, III or FTC
  • Valid Tanzanian Driving License will be added advantage

Experience:

  • 3 or more years’ experience working as boilermaker in Fixed plant industry
  • Good written and verbal English language skills are essential.
  • Experience with mining environment would be advantageous
