Position Reports to:
Project Director, Zanzibar Urban Roads Rehabilitation and Improvement Project
Primary Purpose of Position:
Bridge/ Structural Engineer on the Zanzibar Urban Roads Rehabilitation & Improvement Project responsible for design coordination, design checking, field verification, reporting and client liaison with respect to the major structures on the project, in particular the planned flyovers.
Key Responsibilities:
· Co-responsible for the technical delivery of major structures design, including field visits necessary for the design process
· Contribute to the preparation and implementation of quality management plans for the project, and adhere to all Design Management guidelines as per the SMEC BMS
· Coordinate, lead and oversee production of quality output from the broader structural design team
· Interact with other discipline leads to plan design work, production and to ensure harmonious interface of all components on projects assigned
· Liaise with Project Director, Design Manager, Technical Principal and Project Manager to ensure projects run efficiently
· Identify and communicate structural design standards and specific client requirements to the wider structural design team
· Other duties as assigned to meet the requirements of the project, function and company in general

· Production of all deliverables to a high-quality standard
· Production of all deliverables within the required timescales and budget
· Fruitful collaboration in/with diverse project teams
· Effective liaison with the Employer, The Engineer, The EPC Contractor (SMEC’s client) and SMEC’s wider structural design team
· Flexibility, adaptability and responsiveness to dynamic project environment and client requirements
Key Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Experience
· Degree in Civil Engineering
· Not less than 8 years’ experience consulting environment in East Africa as a Bridge/ Structural Engineer
· Extensive knowledge and experience designing major structures
· Knowledge of Tanzanian Structural Design Standards and Specifications
· Extensive knowledge of Structural Design Software
· Project Management skills
· Understanding of international consulting and construction business
· Strong computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point)
· Excellent spoken and written English
