We know we’ll only achieve our Mission by hiring and engaging a diverse workforce that reflects the communities in which we work. In addition to the requirements in our postings, we recognize that people come with talent and experiences outside of a job. Diversity of experience and skills combined with passion is a key to innovation and a culture of inclusion! Please apply – we’d love to hear from you. To quote myriad TNC staff members, “you’ll join for our mission, and you’ll stay for our people.”
Since establishing the Africa Program in 2007, TNC’s vision in Africa is to work towards fostering a sustainable future for people and nature, partnering with indigenous communities across 55 million acres on the continent. Our efforts are firmly rooted in people, leveraging scientific and technical expertise as we collaborate with governments and organizations to conserve and enhance Africa’s shared resources in the 9 countries we operate.
TNC has shown that Natural Climate Solutions (NCS) – including sustainably managing, restoring, and protecting forests, grasslands, and water – can provide a third of the solutions to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. NCS can also provide a range of other benefits, such as protecting biodiversity, improving watershed function, and supporting sustainable livelihoods. In Africa, TNC’s flagship program for NCS is the Africa Forest Carbon Catalyst (AFCC). The AFCC is a technical and grant funding program for NCS projects across Africa, focusing on supporting partners to develop high-quality carbon projects for carbon markets.
WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER
Addressing the climate and biodiversity crisis necessitates a shift towards an alternative economic paradigm that prioritizes sustainable natural resources management, promotes biodiversity, reduces greenhouse gas emissions, and enhances equitable economic opportunities and well-being, particularly for Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities (IPLCs).
The AFCC is dedicated to establishing and scaling high-quality NCS projects by cultivating a pipeline of market-ready businesses and community-focused enterprises that deliver climate and community benefits. This includes forging partnerships with non-governmental organisations (NGOs), IPLCs and other partners; creating innovations in business and delivery models; and collaborating with experts in TNC’s Global and Africa teams to develop financing and investment strategies.
The Africa Forest Carbon Catalyst (AFCC) Director leads TNC’s work to incubate a portfolio of the most promising NCS enterprises and projects across Africa. They are key in leading TNC’s NCS strategy in Africa and will work seamlessly with our Global and regional teams.
