Geofields is looking forward to recruiting the following positions who will be seconded to AUMS-Geofields at Geita Gold Mine.

POSITION: EHS&T Officer

Geita Gold Mine, Geita

Position purpose:

The EHS&T Officer will provide the site with EHS&T advice, coordination and relevant administration support. The role will be involved in partnering with site operations supervisors and employees to ensure AUMS’s safety values and culture is effectively promoted and adopted across the operation.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Guiding employees on best work practice by ensuring safe work processes are in place, understood by all and being used consistently.
  • Administering and applying HSE&T policies, procedures, and matrices including the development of site specific HSE&T management plans.
  • Provide on-site Inductions ensuring all employees and contractors are site compliant.
  • Monitor the health and well-being of our onsite personnel.
  • Participate in (and lead where appropriate at the local level) any HSE&T improvement to ensure both operational and legislative requirements are met.
  • Provide technical support as required to accident investigations to ensure a thorough and documented approach is used.
  • Provide accurate and timely local reports on all HSE&T matters to relevant parties.
  • Attend and provide input to the regular operations tool box and pre and after shift meetings.
  • Provide HSE&T reporting and monitor local trends for communicating with relevant parties and following up accordingly.
  • In conjunction with relevant parties implement the solutions to issues of recurring HSE&T problems.
  • Conduct training and verification of Competencies.
  • Support auditing of onsite machinery and equipment.
  • Provide HSE&T mentoring to operational personnel.
  • Administer and assist with the local return to work/rehabilitation process.

Essential Requirements:

  • Diploma/Degree in OHS or equivalent with up to A – 6 years’ relevant experience.
  • NEBOSH or OSHA Certification (N0SHC1&N0SHC2 Certificate)
  • Familiar with the Tanzanians Regulations.
  • More system oriented
  • High level of integrity.
  • Strong interpersonal, management and communication skills.
  • Dependably exercise sound judgement and decisions.
  • Strong sense of urgency and outcomes focused.
  • Knowledge and application of HSE legislation and compliance requirements to Barminco and the client’s safety systems.
  • Experience of providing supportive specialist HSE&T operational advice to operations.
  • Proven experience in a similar role preferably within an underground mining environment.
  • Prior Under Ground mechanised mining experience and equipment operation.
  • Excellent English communications skills and ability to manage diverse and in some instances multi-cultural teams.
  • Well-developed time management and planning skills are essential.
  • The ability to influence and engage with operational and non-operational employees and contractors with good demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills, influencing skills and including consultation.
  • Strong observation and analytical skills along with attention to detail.
  • Computer proficiency (MS Excel, Word, Power Point/ Outlook / email)
  • Experienced with a large ERP software/HSE&T information systems and reporting tool (e.g. SAP and Pronto)
  • Information security – appreciate the importance of securing commercial and confidential information.
  • Safety – observe safety procedures and use equipment and materials properly.
  • Valid Tanzanian Driver’s License is highly regarded.
  • First Aid Certificate is highly regarded.
  • Internal Audit Certificate for ISO 45001:2018 is highly regarded.

 

POSITION: Fitter

Geita Gold Mine, Geita

Position purpose:

This position is responsible for Diagnostic fault finding on mechanical and electrical systems, breakdown repairs and servicing of heavy mining equipment as guided by your immediate supervisor and trainer.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Complies with all HS&E policies, procedures and instructions. This includes the correct use of safety devices and protective equipment, prompt reporting of any hazardous situations, which they cannot themselves correct, making the necessary changes to eliminate or control the hazard and reporting immediately any accident or injury which arises in the course of their work.
  • Complies with all company policies and procedures that are displayed and amended from time to time.
  • Takes reasonable care for their own safety and that of other persons who may be affected by their acts.
  • Performs pre-start checks and SWICs.
  • Ensuring inspections and maintenance is carried out on all equipment before use.
  • Ensures that all tools are serviceable and safe.
  • Must Work to minimise equipment downtime and maximise productivity.
  • Liaises with the underground shift supervisor to:
  • Ensure all work is done in a safe and efficient manner;
  • Advise when items of equipment are out of service and when they can be returned to service.
  • Garries out schedule servicing to mobile equipment in a safe manner and in accordance with the service sheet.
  • Utilise skill and experience to create minimum downtime on machinery.
  • Ensure correct recording of maintenance is achieved.
  • Maintain a high level of housekeeping in workshop and working areas at all times, ensure all parts are kept at minimum stock levels.
  • Read and interpret Service and Spare parts manuals.
  • Report all equipment faults to the Maintenance Supervisor / Foreman for scheduling into the workshop.
  • Ensure site and maintenance procedures are maintained.

Essential Requirements

  • Previous experience working within the UG mining industry essential.
  • Strong background working with underground mobile mining equipment, including makes such as Caterpillar, Normet, Sandvik, Mercedes, Toyota, RCT and Volvo.
  • At least 2 years post apprenticeship experience.
  • High degree of skill in troubleshooting problems on mining equipment.
  • Good knowledge of loader and truck maintenance.
  • Competent on Auto Electrics, Hydraulic Circuits and Diesel engine maintenance.
  • Excellent service and maintenance approach to the job.
  • Willingness to learn to improve skills and gain further experience on mobile equipment.
  • Tanzanian Heavy Vehicle Class Driver’s License.
  • Basic first aid knowledge
  • Relevant Trade Qualification
  • Completion of secondary school
  • Basic numeracy and verbal/written English

 

POSITION: Nipper

Geita Gold Mine, Geita

Position purpose:

Carries out tasks needed to ensure that the mining operation operates in a smooth and efficient manner as guided by your immediate supervisor and trainer.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Complies with all HS&E policies, procedures and instructions. This includes the correct use of safety devices and protective equipment, prompt reporting of any hazardous situations, which they cannot themselves correct, making the necessary changes to eliminate or control the hazard and reporting immediately any accident or injury which arises in the course of their work.
  • Complies with all company policies and procedures that are displayed and amended from time to time.
  • Takes reasonable care for their own safety and that of other persons who may be affected by their acts.
  • Performs pre-start checks and SWICs.
  • Ensuring inspections and maintenance is carried out on all equipment before use.
  • Ensures that all tools are serviceable and safe.
  • Must Work to minimise equipment downtime and maximise productivity.
  • Must carry out standard workplace inspection practices and procedures and prepare the areas for drilling, charging or scraping in accordance with mine safety procedures.
  • Maintains a high standard of housekeeping.
  • Liaises with the underground shift supervisor to:
  • Ensure all work is done in a safe and efficient manner;
  • Advise when items of equipment are out of service and when they can be returned to service.
  • Delivery and pick up of equipment such as tools, explosives, piping, services and anything else that is needed for the smooth operation of the Underground Mine.
  • Delivery and pick up of Underground workers.
  • Removal of waste items from Underground workings to waste dumps.
  • Assisting Jumbo Operators with bolting and meshing as required.
  • Set up headings with bolt and mesh and assist service crew when possible.

Essential Requirements:

  • Basic First Aid
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Completion of secondary school
  • Basic numeracy and verbal/written English

POSITION: Production Charge Up Operator

Geita Gold Mine, Geita

Position purpose:

This position is responsible for carrying out charging of Jumbo development rounds, stripping rounds and longhole stopes in a safe and efficient manner.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Use of a variety of explosives and initiating systems, depending on drill pattern, rock type and hole dimension;
  • Highly experienced production charging with emulsion productes.
  • Handle and transport explosive material in a safe manner according to procedures;
  • Charge up holes, down-holes and development drives;
  • Charge Up and fire stope blasts according to blast plan;
  • Ensure working area is safe for personnel and equipment to perform duties;
  • Liaise with Geologists, Engineers and Shift Supervisors to optimize blast designs;
  • Prepping Stope Blast Holes and produce and accurate Stope Prep plan;
  • Full understanding of Charge Plans and charge Stopes according to plan;
  • Have good communication and written skills.

Essential Requirements:

  • 5 years Experience in Production Charging;
  • Experience with i-kon Charging and Logging;
  • Experience Charging with both Emulsion and Anfo;
  • Understanding and ability to conduct Density testing of Emulsion.
  • Experience in operating a Normet Charmec LC605 charging unit;
  • Sound mechanical knowledge of both the Normet and Hypercharge Unit;
  • Valid Tanzanian Driver’s License;
  • Tanzanian Blast Certificate
  • A recent Tanzanian police clearance certificate.
  • Flexible and willingness to assist with varied tasks and responsibilities;
  • Previously employed in an underground Charge-Up role;


POSITION: Jumbo Operator

Geita Gold Mine, Geita

Position purpose:

The Jumbo Operator will carry out underground development and production work, stripping, ground support and other mining tasks directed by the Underground Shift Supervisor and trainer.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Complies with all HS&E policies, procedures and instructions. This includes the correct use of safety devices and protective equipment, prompt reporting of any hazardous situations, which they cannot themselves correct, making the necessary changes to eliminate or control the hazard and reporting immediately any accident or injury which arises in the course of their work.
  • Complies with relevant Mines Safety and Inspection Act and Regulations.
  • Takes reasonable care for their own safety and that of other persons who may be affected by their acts.
  • Performs pre-start checks and SWICs.
  • Accurately drill a number of drive drill patterns using a mechanised electric/ Hydraulic Jumbo drill suitable to ground conditions and in compliance with site specific drill patterns and survey instruction.
  • Assess ground conditions at the face and implement ground control according to site requirements.
  • Read and accurately follow mining instruction plan with skill and precision ensuring holes are drilled to design line, gradient and profile.
  • Communicate with surveyors, geologists and engineers as required.
  • Optimise drill patterns to ensure maximum advance per round is achieved whilst maintaining strict adherence to design specifications with minimal overbreak.
  • Ensure work area is safe for personnel and equipment to perform working duties including ensuring electrical installations and services are clear of the drilling area.

Essential Requirements

  • A demonstrated passion for safety and a proactive attitude toward ensuring that safety is front of mind for all employees at all times.
  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience in the Underground Mining Industry.
  • Knowledge of Underground Mining Practices and the efficient operations of an Underground Jumbo.
  • Tanzanian Driver’s License and good driving skills.
  • Basic first aid knowledge
  • Completion of secondary school
