Serengeti Breweries Limited (SBL) is a fully integrated beverage business in Diageo Africa (supply and demand for beer and spirits).

SBL flagship brand is Serengeti Premium Lager. Other brands in the portfolio include Serengeti Lite, Guinness, Pilsner and SIB. Headquartered in Dar es Salaam, SBL is also the distributor of several global Diageo international world-class spirits brands such as Johnnie Walker, Smirnoff, Gordon’s, Bailey’s and Captain Morgan.

 

Purpose of Role

  • Work at the Tier 1 level to lead and motivate the shift team to take accountabilities to deliver World Class performance in all aspects of the balanced scorecard (Safety, Quality, Service and Cost) and morale.
  • Ensure that all health, Safety and Environment, Quality, Cost, and reliability standards are met and driving conformance to regulate and accreditation standards i.e. ISO/HACCP. etc. in Packaging.
  • Implement significant change within a continuous improvement culture. High level of engagement and leadership and ME methods and Tools
  • Manage the high level of day-to-day complexities in a complex and busy operational environment to deliver high quality products in a safe manner to plan. This will need a well-developed understanding of the future demand on their lines or areas.
  • As leader responsible for handling performance management, coaching and driving performance.

 

Top 3-5 Accountabilities

  • Creating/Maintaining a safe working environment and ensure all equipment’s within Packaging is operated in line with required Environment, Health and Safety Standards
  • Delivering Quality products that meets Diageo specification to both internal and external customers.
  • Ensuring quality and food safety requirement are through embedding quality and food safety culture in Ways of working.
  • Maintaining High level of hygiene of across all Packaging equipment and areas around the equipment
  • Planning and controlling the production area to ensure delivery that is on time and in full to the agreed schedule.
  • Reducing waste in operations to meet or exceed cost targets.
  • Understand and use MMS best Practices (Tools and Techniques) to drive Improvements and performance.
  • Aware of Quality triggers and Use Escalation Matrix and use it effectively on process deviation and breakdowns for support for proper Quality control.
  • Ensure timely and effective usage of any new system and process that are adopted by the organization like Harford and Orbis
  • Upholding and advancing quality standards by ensuring Quality is maintained at source.
  • Drive Autonomous maintenance in Packaging.
  • Human resource management – Coaching and Train operators on process and development
  • Active participation in own personal development initiative as leader of people
  • Ensure proper application of RCPS through the role modeling and leadership. Raise 5 Whys as per defined by trigger points and lead to situational problem solving on shift.
  • Completely accountable for planning and driving the Asset Care agenda for the shift Performs equipment changeovers and required adjustments on the equipment effectively.
  • Proper handover between incoming and outgoing team leader on production performance and empties received.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering/ production management
  • Diploma in Engineering/ Food Science/Chemistry/Biochemistry is highly preferable.
  • IBD Diploma in Packaging or Brewing
