We are offering an exciting consulting position for a Construction Advisor with an academic background in engineering, construction, or architecture to support our “A Good Start” project in Morogoro, Tanzania.

Position Overview: Construction Advisor

Location: Morogoro, Tanzania
Contract Type: Part-time
Contract Duration: February 2025 – December 2025

About the “A Good Start” Project

The “A Good Start” (second project phase 2025-2027) aims to reduce perinatal and neonatal deaths and improve neonatal care quality in the Morogoro region, Tanzania. In collaboration with local health authorities, the project will enhance neonatal care services at 8 health facilities in the region. An essential aspect of the project is its implementation research component, which will inform future policy development.

The Construction Advisor will support the Project Manager in overseeing the construction of a new Neonatal Care Unit at a government health facility in Morogoro Municipality, as well as other rehabilitation works. The Advisor will closely collaborate with the project team and relevant government authorities.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in construction project meetings with government authorities and the SolidarMed team.
  • Ensure construction activities comply with Tanzanian policies and SolidarMed’s Greener Healthcare policy.
  • Provide technical support during the tender process, constructor selection, and the construction works.
  • Monitor material quality and the quality of construction works in collaboration with the government engineer.
  • Regularly monitor construction progress and submit monthly reports to the Project Manager.
  • Offer technical support to the contractor in collaboration with the government engineer.

Qualifications

We are looking for a motivated individual with the following qualifications:

  • University degree in engineering, construction, or architecture.
  • At least 3 years of relevant professional experience in construction.
  • Experience working in partnership with other organizations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Software.
  • Knowledge of environmentally friendly construction policies.
  • Experience in building healthcare facilities is a plus.
  • Experience working with INGOs is an asset.
  • Team player with good interpersonal skills.
  • Fluent in English (written and spoken).
