Duties and Responsibilities
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading environmental authority in the United Nations system. UNEP uses its expertise to strengthen environmental standards and practices while helping implement environmental obligations at the country, regional and global levels. UNEP’s mission is to provide leadership and encourage partnership in caring for the environment by inspiring, informing, and enabling nations and peoples to improve their quality of life without compromising that of future generations. UNEP Tanzania Office is part of the Africa office, headed by the Regional Director and Representative. The architecture of the UNEP Office in Tanzania is inclined to a representational role, coordination and integration of UNEP’s inputs and commitments to the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) and liaison with the host government. Under the direct supervision of the National Coordinator and head of the Tanzania office, the Operations and Programs Intern will undertake the following tasks:
- Project Proposal Development: Support the development and preparation of project proposals for the implementation of various priority activities under the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF), ensuring alignment with UNEP’s Africa Office plan of work commitments. This may involve conducting background research, drafting proposals, and collaborating with team members to refine project concepts. elwUevL CzLaBd
- Logistical Coordination: Assist in logistical arrangements for meetings, workshops, and field visits related to program implementation. This includes scheduling, preparing materials, and ensuring smooth operations during events.
- Financial Management Support: Support the team in operational tasks such as managing budgets and financial records. Responsibilities include processing invoices, tracking expenses, and preparing financial reports to ensure transparency and accountability in funding.
- Document Review and Research: Assist in reviewing relevant documents related to green growth, the potential for a green economy, climate change, environmental governance, and resource efficiency. This will contribute to informed decision-making and program development.
- Additional Support: Undertake any other activities assigned by the supervisor that support the goals of the team and enhance program effectiveness.
Qualifications/special skills
The basic education required is below first degree. Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work. experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Applicants should have good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams.
Languages
Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Basic level of Swahili is desirable.
