Job Summary
This position reports to the Principal Investigator Global Animal Health- Tanzania (GAHT). The purpose of the Research Scientist’s (RS) role is to work with the Eliminating Human Rabies Program: impact of enhanced vaccination coverage (the project).
Job Description

Position Supervisor: Principal Investigator - Tanzania
Mara Region, Tanzania. The Research Scientist will be expected to be based in GAHT office in Arusha.
Responsibilities include:
- The collection of project data (e.g. socio-economic data, vaccination coverage data etc.) through field-based data collection activities.
- Management of project data including careful storage of said data;
- Collating and analysis of research data;
- Drafting scientific reports and peer reviewed publications;
- Management and secure accounting of advanced project funds for field activities;
- Management of field staff;
- Driving and maintenance of project vehicles;
- Presentation of project activities at conferences and meetings;
- Representation of project at regional and national meetings;
Job Duties

Percentage of time: 70%
Duties Performed:
- Collect and analyze research data
- Cooperate in the preparation of quarterly progress reports for the Principal Investigator
- Write and submit manuscripts for publication of project findings in respected peer reviewed journals
Job Function: Other duties
Percent of time: 30%
Duties performed:
- Be responsible and ensure the GAHT vehicle is operated solely for project activities and that it is maintained in good order that includes;
o Maintaining vehicle log book where mileage will always be recorded before commencing and after a field trip.
o Close communication with Program Coordinator ensuring vehicle maintenance is done in a timely manner.
o Report to the Program Coordinator of any serious mechanical problems that needs immediate resolution.
o Send a copy of vehicle log book each month to the Program Coordinator
- Assist with project logistics as requested by Program Coordinator.
- Receive and securely manage project funds and provide timely and accurate accounts of said funds. These will include travel advances and any other cash advances provided for field activities.
- Miscellaneous other duties as requested.
Minimum qualification required for the position
- Master of Science degree; preferably in the field of public health economics
- Experience working in a research capacity
- Experience working in the field of zoonotic disease research, with an emphasis on canine mediated human rabies
- Proven quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis skills
- Fluent in Swahili and English
- Written English must be of publication level
- Must have a valid driving licence

Job Summary
This position reports to the Principal Investigator. The primary responsibility Senior Field Officer (SFO) will be to work in the field and to carry out data collection activities for research projects being implemented by Global Animal Health Tanzania (GAHT). Job Description

How to Apply

Qualification required for the position
- An animal health qualification (certificate or diploma level)
- Minimum of five years experience working as a field officer on scientific research programs
- Experience as a leader overseeing field teams collecting biological samples and other data collection activities
- Fluent in Swahili and English
- Written English must be of a high standard
- Computer literate - comfortable with email, and producing and editing Word and Excel documents
- Must have a valid driving licence
- Knowledge and experience of vehicle maintenance and mechanics is a bonus
