The Catholic University of Health and Allied Sciences (CUHAS), owned by the Tanzania Episcopal Conference (TEC), provides training for over 3,000 students. CUHAS is currently running programmes in Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), Master of Medicine (MMed), Master in Public Health (MPH), Master of Science in Pediatric Nursing (M.Sc.PN), Master of Science in Clinical Microbiology and Molecular Biology (M.Sc. CMMB), Doctor of Medicine (MD), Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm), Bachelor of Science in Nursing Education (B.Sc.NED), Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.Sc.N), Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Sciences (BMLS), Bachelor of Science in Medical Imaging and Radiotherapy (B.Sc. MIR), Diploma in Pharmaceutical Sciences (DPS), Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences (DMLS) and Diploma in Diagnostic Radiography (DDR).
The Else Kröner-Fresenius Center for Advanced Medical & Medical Humanitarian Studies Würzburg – Mwanza is a collaborative programme between the Catholic University of Health and Sciences, Mwanza (CUHAS)/Bugando Medical Centre, the Leprosy and Tuberculosis Relief Association, Würzburg (DAHW), the Medical Mission Institute, Würzburg (MMI) and, the Julius Maximilians University Würzburg/ University Hospital Würzburg (UKW) whose Mission is to:
i. Implement a structured exchange program at different levels (undergraduate and postgraduate students, and faculty/clinicians),
ii. Develop joint study curricula,
iii. Conduct bilateral research projects through various PhD programmes
iv. Improve hospital-based medical care and medical infrastructure in the community.
v. Train young academicians and clinicians vi. Community based research project
The WORK PACKAGE FOUR of the Else Kröner-Fresenius Center for Advanced Medical & Medical Humanitarian Studies Würzburg focuses on improving health status of communities living in schistosomiasis endemic areas of north-western Tanzania. This part will be implemented at Ukerewe District for five years. CUHAS is looking for highly qualified and motivated persons to fill the following position/vacancy:
Project Manager/Coordinator (1 Post)
Report to: Principal Investigator
Location: Mwanza & Ukerewe District
Essential characteristics: Ideal candidates will have the following qualification and experience:
• Master’s Degree in Public Health or other relevant Master Degree (Epidemiology, and Biostatistics/Medical Statistics)
• Experience and demonstrated expertise in the analysis of large epidemiological datasets, including data management and proven strong ability to use the statistical package Stata for these purposes
• Two-three experiences of coordinating and implementing community-based research works and interventions.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to write clearly and succinctly for a range of audiences including academic publications
• Proven ability to organize work effectively to deadlines
• Fluent in written and spoken English and Swahili, and willing to be based at Ukerewe district during the project activities and when need arises
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Coordination and organization of the team to assign tasks and ensure implementation of activities according to time plan of deliverables and milestones
• Monthly based planning of project activities together with the principal investigator
• Preparation of activity
• Liaise with district, ward and village partners
• Analyse data arising from the project and lead and/or contribute to the writing of resulting manuscripts
• Ability to align and adapt project measures to ensure best possible outcomes
• Quality assurance of project implementation
• Manage the project office at Ukerewe, include supervising the research assistants and the project accountant and ensure all team members conduct effective planning,
conduct and communication of their tasks
Remuneration
A Successful candidate will be offered a Gross salary of Tshs. 2,430,000/= per month as per Project’s guidelines.
