The Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology (NM-AIST) in collaboration with VLIR-UOS Programme invites applications from suitably qualified, skilled, competent, and experienced Tanzanians to fill for the post of a Research Field Assistant for the Programme.
VLIR-UOS Programme is a programme established in partnership with NM-AIST and KU Leuven University under Belgian Development Cooperation aiming at Sustainable management of natural resources to the benefits of the local communities of Northern Tanzania.
Research Field Assistant (1 Position)
a) Qualifications, Knowledge and Essential Attributes Duties and Responsibilities
Holder of Diploma in Agriculture or equivalent from recognized college/institution in
Tanzania. Experience in managing banana fields will be an added advantage.
(b) Duties and Responsibilities
1. Manage banana field trials including overseeing and executing fertilization plan, irrigation, weed and sucker management per given protocol.
2. Assist in data collection that include; gravimetric soil moisture measurements, banana growth measurements, phenological timing and banana fruit harvesting per given protocol.
3. Prepare and timely submit field requirements to the researcher.
4. Weekly check-ins with the researcher.
5. Any other Duties and Responsibilities as may be assigned by one’s reporting officer.
(c) Remuneration
We offer a total monthly allowance of 420,000TZS per month (subject to PAYE).
(d) Duration of the position:
Full time one year contract, with a probation period of three months. The position may be renewed subject to satisfactory performance and availability of funding.
(e) Duty Station:
Work station will be Moshi-Kilimanjaro, however the position will involve frequent visits of on-farm fields that are located in Arusha.
(f) Reporting to: Local Coordinator, VLIR-UOS Programme administratively and technically to Project Leader & researcher.
(g) Applicants should not be above 45 years old.
