Tembo Nickel Corporation (“Tembo”) is an operating company formed via the Framework Agreement (19 January 2021) between Kabanga Nickel Limited and the Government of Tanzania for development of the Kabanga nickel deposits in the Ngara District in the Northwest of Tanzania. Under the Framework Agreement terms, Tembo (owned 84% by Kabanga Nickel Limited and 16% by the Government of Tanzania) has been formally established for the mining, processing and refining of Class 1 nickel with cobalt and copper co-products. Tembo is the Swahili word for elephant and represents strength, community and longevity. Tembo Nickel aims to become a sustainable, inclusive and responsible company supplying critical battery minerals to the world.
GENERAL MANAGER-ESG (ENVIRONMENTAL, SOCIAL AND GOVERNANCE)
Position Summary:
Tembo Nickel is seeking to recruit a General Manager-ESG to join the Tembo Nickel Team. This role is part of the CLT (Country Leadership Team). The General Manager of ESG (Environment, Social, Governance) will report directly to the Country Manager and work closely with fellow team members and various stakeholders across the Company. This role drives the execution of the ESG strategy by working with internal stakeholders to gather, analyze and report on various ESG metrics and targets. The successful candidate for this role is expected to have a solid background in Environmental Management and/ or Science and Sustainability.
Duty Station- Tembo Nickel Country Office-Dar es salaam
Duties and Responsibilities
- Develops and leads a multi-pronged strategy for Environmental Social and Governance (ESG).
- Provides technical ESG assistance and support to Tembo Nickel, including coaching and best practice sharing.
- Supports external communication to investors and stakeholders on material developments in the Company’s ESG performance and credentials.
- Remains up to date on ESG trends and developments and translates them into actionable improvements across the Company’s portfolio.
- Develops and drives Tembo Nickel ESG strategy including environmental, safety, security, communications, and external relations.
- Establishes objectives and milestones to achieve short and long-term goals, embedding our strategy within the functional areas as an integrated part of how we work.
- Prioritizes the issues that are most important to Tembo Nickel, our employees, communities, and shareholders while considering opportunities for business growth and risk mitigation.
- Understands international ESG frameworks, implements and measures Tembo Nickel’s obligations under select frameworks.
- Develops external ESG reporting and works collaboratively across multiple functional areas to drive program awareness and communicates program results.
- Creates and drives engagement opportunities that serve employees, communities, and stakeholders while aligning with the Company’ mission and vision.
- Develops and executes an overall program/project management, operational, and change management strategy related to business initiatives/processes.
- Works cross-functionally to develop and implement successful environmental, corporate communications, and public relation strategies.
- Acts as a thought leader in ESG; Understanding current and future challenges within the industry and educating and prioritizing these issues with internal teams and external stakeholders.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Experience of ESG strategy development and implementation.
- A strong background in Environmental Management in a reputable organization.
- Relevant educational qualifications, including A master’s degree in either Environmental Management, Sustainability, or related fields.
- At least 15 years of professional experience within ESG, Sustainability or CSR that include driving corporate ESG/CSR initiatives that tie to strategic business objectives; 8 years of team leadership experience.
