OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME
The objectives of the HIV, TB and viral hepatitis programmes is to support the country to develop policies and programmes, build capacity for the delivery of the health sector response to the epidemics of HIV, TB and viral hepatitis. The officer to be recruited in this position will also support national professional officers in the disease control related programmes.
Description Of Duties
Serve as policy and technical advisor and also functions as a technical liaison for HIV, tuberculosis, and viral hepatitis activities within Tanzania WHO country office. The incumbent operates as part of the larger WHO technical assistance team and directly contributes to the development, implementation and monitoring of the approved WCO work plans in the context of the WHO Country Cooperation Strategy. 2. Extensively collaborate with the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania through the Ministries of Health, national institutions, developmental partners and technical agencies, and interface with the staff from various government departments, professional organizations, non-governmental organizations, and academic institutions. 3. Develop new and strengthen existing partnerships with various stakeholders.4. Build the capacity of the national disease control programmes and other relevant national institutions for developing and scaling up innovative models for quality diagnosis and treatment, and care for TB, HIV and viral hepatitis. 5. Contribute to the elaboration and implementation of resource mobilization and advocacy strategies and provide guidance for their implementation.6. Facilitate the preparation of comprehensive plans for implementation of the End TB Strategy, National multisectoral HIV Strategic Plan and the national viral hepatitis control plan. 7. Collate, analyze and share relevant information. 8. Provide advice and guidance in strengthening surveillance and conducting periodic surveys for the three diseases to monitor trends and to provide reliable estimates for incidence, prevalence, mortality, drug resistance, and economic impact.9. Monitor and report the implementation of WHO Resolutions pertaining to TB, HIV and viral hepatitis prevention and control at country level.10. Perform any other related duties, tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the WHO Representative
Required Qualifications
Education
Essential: Degree in medicine, and post-graduate training in Infectious diseases/internal medicine/public health
Desirable: Training in Epidemiology, statistics and/or Public Health Management
Experience
Essential: At least 7 years’ experience in managing implementation and or supporting health programmes; 5 years specifically in the area of HIV and/or TB with at least 3 years working at international level. Experience with Global Fund processes including proposal development and programming experience in WHO or an international organization preferably in the UN system.
Desirable: Experience in health programme reviews and evaluation

REMUNERATION
WHO salaries for staff in the Professional category are calculated in US dollars. The remuneration for the above position comprises an annual base salary starting at USD 77,326 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable), a variable post adjustment, which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station, and currently amounts to USD 2842 per month for the duty station indicated above. Other benefits include 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.
