Job Title: Procurement Manager

Reports To: Finance Manager

In this role, you will be responsible for meeting company goals and expectations in purchasing while staying within your department’s budget. Your job duties include researching to find quality products, negotiating fair contracts, and ensuring timely and complete shipments. Developing a procurement and inventory management strategy is crucial to ensuring a consistent supply of products for the company. This role will also be responsible for creating, measuring, and evaluating annual budgets for Demand (Marketing), Indirect costs, Raw Materials, MRO (Machine repairs and operations), Packaging, and Logistics.


Position Details

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and supervise employees and all activities within the purchasing department.
  • Prepare plans for the purchase of equipment, services, and supplies.
  • Develop and drive the identification, design, governance, and analysis of supply chain policies, processes, standards, methods, systems, controls, and implement best practice changes to improve buying or procurement policies and procedures.
  • Review, compare, analyze, and approve products and services to be purchased.
  • Manage inventories and maintain accurate purchase and pricing records, ensuring competitive pricing and supply contracts.
  • Maintain and update supplier information such as qualifications, delivery times, and product ranges.
  • Maintain good supplier relations through meetings and performance reviews and negotiate contracts.
  • Maintain receiving, warehousing, and distribution operations by coordinating and enforcing program policies and procedures.
  • Strong analytical skills required, focusing on strategic relationships, less on deals, and more on data and analysis.
  • Involvement in spend analytics, market analysis, negotiation, sourcing, and supplier selection.
  • Collaborate on performance and contract management, market-informed sourcing, and risk management.
  • Influence multiple key senior stakeholders across Supply and Demand businesses.
  • Accountable for key external suppliers in defined categories to maximize long-term commercial advantage.
  • Understand multiple cultures and global market dynamics, and extrapolate insights from external markets.
  • Manage key projects crossing multiple categories/functions.

Key Outputs / Deliverables:

  • Deliver on the Annual Operating Plan (AOP).
  • Develop, agree, and deliver cross-functional category strategy.
  • Achieve/exceed performance targets agreed within the strategy.
  • Establish and maintain correct governance processes and category forums.
  • Ensure effective supplier long-term relationships that create sustainable value for both parties and meet Corporate Citizenship with Suppliers criteria.

Post-Qualification Experience:

  • Proven track record of consistent performance and delivery.
  • In-depth knowledge of Clearing and forwarding processes, policies, and systems.
  • Strong analytical and interpersonal skills.
  • Understanding of category management and experience deploying in at least one category.
  • Demonstrated experience in sourcing and successful negotiation.
  • Generates good industry insights and understands the impact on Procurement.
  • Strong analytical skills with experience in financial or cost modeling.
  • Proven ability to build effective Supplier relationships.
  • Excellent leadership capabilities with good influencing skills.
  • Ability to operate and manage senior stakeholders across a global, complex matrix structure.
  • Strong commercial acumen and judgment.
  • Experience leading/participating in cross-functional change projects (5+ years).

The Ideal Candidate Profile:

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, finance, or related field from a recognized university.
  • CPPO, Certified Purchasing Manager, Certified Contract Negotiator, CPPB, or other advanced certifications in procurement or contract administration preferred.
  • Collaborative, with the ability to influence others and build commitment to recommended directions.
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities with the ability to engage and influence teams and external partners.
  • Customer service focus and project management skills.
  • Creative, agile, and innovative, able to manage in an environment of change and ambiguity.
  • Ability to communicate and build positive relationships with all levels of employees and senior management.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Numeracy and an understanding of finance for stock management.
  • Strong people management skills, with the ability to lead and motivate a team.
  • Planning and organizing skills to manage stock flow.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Initiative and decisiveness.
  • Strong technical and IT skills, especially in database management and spreadsheets.
  • Problem-solving skills and the ability to work on both tactical and strategic levels.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
