Specialist (ELT)
The Network of English Language Enhancement (ELE_net) is part of the Office of the Provost. It was established to provide effective solutions for the enhancement of English language skills across AKU.
ELE_net functions as a distributed network. This means that it works closely with other parts of the University to identify English language needs and find effective solutions. ELE_net is directly involved in designing and delivering English courses. It also works with internal and external partners to do this.
Aga Khan University invites applications for the position of Specialist, ELE_net.
Responsibilities :
You will be responsible for:
- teaching on a variety of courses established to enhance English language skills within and outside AKU
- designing English languages courses in face-to-face, blended or online formats that are fit for purpose for relevant client groups
- assessing and providing feedback to learners as appropriate for the courses taught
- carrying out needs analyses to identify English language requirements of client groups
- working with client groups to establish appropriate provision for English language enhancement
- sourcing or developing appropriate assessment tools for the specific needs of different client groups
- playing a leading role in the development of quality assurance and enhancement systems to monitor and improve the quality of the English language services provided
- playing a leading role in the implementation of the mechanisms set up to monitor and improve the quality of the English language provision
- providing individual and small group consultations for a variety of client groups
- reviewing and improving courses taught on an on-going and periodic basis.
You should have:
- a recognised qualification in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL)
- a Master degree in English Language or Applied Linguistics from HEC recognized or reputable foreign university/institution
- experience of coordinating English language programmes and a minimum of five years’ TESOL experience, preferably gained in a higher education context
- up to date knowledge of TESOL methodologies and practice
- highly effective teaching skills, including an ability to employ a range of delivery techniques and assessment methods
- high level of awareness and knowledge of the language and skills needed in an English medium university for successful communication in academic and professional contexts
- good understanding of quality assurance requirements in higher education and English language teaching contexts
- excellent time management and planning skills with a proven ability to manage competing demands effectively, responsibly and without close support
- ability to work effectively as part of a team, and to establish and develop effective working relations with AKU academic departments and professional services
- high level of competence in English language (equivalent to at least a high C1 in the Common European Framework of Reference), particularly in academic and professional contexts
- ability and willingness to use digital technology and devices for teaching, learning and administrative purposes
- willingness to teach outside normal office hours (early evenings and weekends) if needed
- willingness to travel within East Africa and, if required, to other AKU campuses.

Early Years Coordinator
The role will be based in Dar es Salaam.
Position Summary
« To coordinate, and ensure the growth and success of the Aga Khan Nursery, Dar es Salaam, as an IB Early Years, PYP School.
« To provide an appropriate Early Years learning environment, with reference to the IB-PYP standards and practises, where students have the opportunity to develop and grow intellectually, emotionally, physically and spiritually.
« To work collaboratively with staff and parents to set high expectations for all children and to ensure that they achieve their developmental potential through the IB-PYP and within the context of an Early Years setting.
Key Responsibilities
Together with the AKNPS Head of School:
« Recruit appropriately qualified staff, with the potential to develop and grow as IB-PYP Early Years practitioners. « Implement the AKNPS performance evaluation and goal setting cycle, identifying the professional development gaps of the Nursery staff, and ensuring that they have access to suitable training and support through a clearly articulated CPL (Continuing Professional Learning) Plan.

Key Responsibilities
- In collaboration with the AKNPS Head of School, continue to develop the IB-PYP curriculum in the Nursery section of AKNPS, ensuring equal access to an appropriately broad and balanced learning experience for all children.
- Be responsible for maintaining and delivering a vertically aligned curriculum that fully meets the developmental learning outcomes for the students.
- Provide mentoring, coaching and continuing professional learning opportunities as appropriate to meet staff collective and individual needs.
- Develop and maintain effective systems of programme planning, assessment record-keeping and reporting.
- Ensure high quality teaching and learning, supported by the principles of internationally accepted best practices in Early Childhood education, through a rigorous programme of monitoring and evaluation.
- Ensure the key performance indicators for the AKNPS Nursery sections are met annually.
- Set high expectations for guiding students’ achievement across all developmental milestones.
- Maintain effective systems for tracking students’ progress; monitor progress using ASQ3 annually.
- Ensure close parental and community involvement in the day-to-day life of the AKNPS Nursery section.
- Provide regular, informative communication between the AKNPS Nursery section and the home.
- Ensure that all regulatory requirements are followed and that the necessary supporting documents for all IB- PYP, ECD and Government Inspections, are available consistently and in a timely manner.
- Ensure that the equal opportunities policy is followed.
- Ensure that the AKNPS performance evaluation cycle is conducted for all Nursery section staff.
- Manage and monitor finance, material and human resources effectively and efficiently, with regard to the development plan and the key priorities of the Nursery section.
- Together with the AKNPS Head of School, be responsible for the day-to-day management of the annual budget for the Nursery section.
- Maximise the use of the buildings and facilities to promote effective teaching and learning.
- Ensure effective supervision and security of the Nursery section environment and ensure good maintenance though AKES, T policies and procedures.
- Ensure the health and safety of all children and adults whilst on the Nursery campus.
